Well after a large amount of money, a deal with Max Clifford and a lot of bargaining with a certain person (aka. Pj) I finally came up with the treasure. Hold your breath this is the one and only existant picture of our adored Dulcinea. It's amazing. She looks 'exactly' how I'd always imagined, proud as a Lion (she's a Leo of course) and just as brave, yet feminine of visage, with a softness and delicacy rarely seen in these days of 'Jordan' and similar vulgar types. <swoons> Pictures of Dulcie Make my World So Wonderful! And then one day things weren't quite so fine I fell in love with Lily I asked my dad where Lily I could find He said, 'Son, now don't be silly' Anyway, as I was saying there's plenty of fish in the Sea, Crusoe....it's just a question of catching the darn things. Otherwise we'll starve - y'know what Mother said about Omega Irons and all that.. Edited for privacy purposes. Very sorry, Upsetter. It IS difficult being a mod.

mod....if you presume y to be a real name, then you cannot leave my portrait on the board either. young upsetter ... 13 bells.... [/b] oops ... this might set miranda jumping... although she might be more liable to respond to the sound of a foghorn which perhaps a most appropriate warning against much pettifogging going on.... adios, as always give my love to the norman...

I have strong views on the subject of giving away other people's personal info on messageboards!
I have often been at the sharp end of a certain Istvn Istvn's total disregard for boundaries in pursuit of a cheap point or an attempt to show how well he 'knows' people.
This is how I see it:
Whatever info/pics/details/phonecalls you have of/about/with other messageboard folk they are between you and them.
They are not to be bandied about by anyone else other than the person to whom they apply.
.....just wanted to get that off my chest!
Upsetter was totally out of order - but I guess that's why we love him. The Beak has my sympathy - the Mod thing can be a right pain in the arse.

Chelsea Girl, well said. I completely agree with you. Your remarks are all the more pertinent if a person's name appears and that person is not here to reply or call the attention of a Mod who might or should take appropriate action. Indeed it looks as if the Beak ought to look in here again, frankly.
I completely agree with this too: "Whatever info/pics/details/phonecalls you have of/about/with other messageboard folk they are between you and them. They are not to be bandied about by anyone else other than the person to whom they apply."
If for instance I decided that I trusted someone enough to send them my photo and then found that that photo had been passed on without my knowledge or permission to other messageboard folk, that trust would be completely destroyed.
I think that posting personal information about other people is also against ProBoard rules?

It's a grey area. I've used my real name on the boards many times as have many others. What the paranoia about is something of a mystery. Some people are massively over-sensitive, in fact I sometimes think it is a prerequisite of being a forum poster. Nevertheless, if someone was mentally ill then one would take this into consideration and do what one can to keep them clammed down. In a straitjacket presumably. After a large injection of valium.
Now in CG's case it was a private phone call and in a totally different context where the material was used against her, although I have yet to see the precise evidence on which to make a judgement I would be happy to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Also I wouldn't misunderstimate Sweet Dulcie she's a clever old bird and the only person who has ever caught me out. Since I'm gibbering away - like I do because its less boring than reading limericks - I'll point out one early and amusing (to me anyhow) case. I wan't quite as adept at mastering the boards and the delightful Anna Cassar had ordered the Upsetter to 'stay on-topic'. In other words strictly talk about R4 programmes. So I caught the last part of a documentary about Jacques Brel and was so impressed I rather lazily wrote to say how much I enjoyed the programme. Although I enthused about the songs that he'd written, I wasn't quite sure about his early life after missing the beginning of the programme but thought I knew enough to wing it. And I got away with it!
Sadly I'd somehow in my addled brain given Brel the childhood of Kurt Weill. An easy mistake to make <cough>. Dulcie was the only one to pick it up on it. After that I made sure I got my facts straight. So thanks and mucho kisses, Dulcie.
yrs ever.

v When the mist's a rising And the rain is falling And the wind is blowing cold across the moor I hear the voice of my darling The girl I loved and lost a year ago
(Dulcie remember me)
Well it's hard to believe I know But I hear her singing in the sighing of the wind Blowin' in the tree tops way above me

my last comment on this topic is that x is a messageboard name used for a very l o n g time on the bbc... can it ever be wrong to quote an established messageboard name?... upsetter did not break any rules in my opinion.
chelsea your comments were beside the point of upsetter's posting and surely appropriate for the case you cited namely private messages. anyone wishing to remain anonymous can just remain a guest - although i know for certain that mods have in the past checked where my ISP is located... so much for te integrity of mods... i refer you to my post regarding hiding ISPs if you feel strongly about that...
I've been asked to modify this post too. Please see The Beakette's words below.

Perhaps some people might find it annoying if they post under one name on board x and under another on board y and then a third party reveals this.
(this has nothing to do with my last post)
re IPs
It is a mod's job to keep IDs confidential - therefore there should be no need to hide or disguise IPs. I suppose the only time it becomes necessary to find out more about where an IP is coming from is when there is somekind of upset on a board. I guess it would be down to the admin to do this - lack of integrity comes with passing any such info onto others - not in acquiring it.

Perhaps some people might find it annoying if they post under one name on board x and under another on board y and then a third party reveals this. I'll drink to that. On reading down this thread I see, though this may have something to do with the fact that it's a weekend, and if it is then that is regrettable, inconsistent moderation. The first time a real name was used it was edited out on absolutely correct grounds, in my opinion. Yet that name has now been repeated three times, and all in the absence of the person named. Does this mean that anyone can type a real name in here and have it removed, but others can repeat it as they wish? Of Course I'm not suggesting more rules, but I think there ought to be a Modly guideline on this, in public. Oh, and I think the "name has been on the bbc messageboards for years" argument is disingenuous. The bbc boards were then. This is now. People change over time and may choose not to have their names displayed in public which is entirely a matter for them, and as such, should be respected. ps. Upsetter, the fact that you have used your real name on other boards and don't mind about that, is not a convincing argument.

Dunno what the fuss is about. Then please re-read Chelsea Girl's posts. Fussmaking not your business? Strange name you've chosen on this board then, Upsetter! Ho Hum. Oh while I'm here: why would anyone want to (try to) hide their IP address unless they have something to hide?

People... This is really silly to be happening amongst adults. I don't particularly like being in the 'middle' of two opinions, so please try - if you will - not to put me, nor the Beak, in these sorts of predicaments. We share the Island, so let's please respect each other. We're all different personalities, and if you accept it, please accept the opinions of the others here. About 'names', I think we should all be in charge of divulging our own names, and no one else's, because some people have a huge problem with it. And, do you realize? There are never other problems on this Island. It is happy, light, and carefree. Mutual respect will keep it that way.
