Any favourite musicals you remember from childhood? Or adulthood, if you're a youngster? Just a couple that come to mind... ... and I wasn't even an orphan.

Something heavy, dark and pendulous, perhaps...

My Fair Lady South Pacific Oklahoma! Kiss Me Kate Annie Get Your Gun And numero uno, best ever, WEST SIDE STORY...
Those were the days when if you heard new songs on the wireless, it meant a new musical had opened... later of course we had Follies, Mac and Mabel, Pal Joey...

The music is not memorable but I saw it 5 or 6 times in one year because it was THE birthday party activity of choice in 1971! A v. young bearded Jeremy Irons was rather delicious as John the Baptist.

I was wondering how long it would be before Lloyd Webber cropped up... A friend played trumpet in the 'Cats' orchestra for TWENTY-ONE YEARS! Can you image that? It's not as though he liked it when it started...
Why is it modern musicals don't have any songs worth remembering? They send the audience out whistling the scenery...
Nursie - did you ever see the film version of Carmen, with Julia Migenes and Placido Domingo? Fabulous...
