Detective Nursie here <---semi colon right bracket Back in IE, the tags are showing but do nowt. When I click on one the message window blinks for a nanosecond. er, hope that helps but somehow I doubt it will. never mind, here, have a courgette. They usually cure most things. That or a sausage roll a cup of tea and a run along the beach. <--- colon right bracket

I usually use Mozilla, but I've just now signed on with Explorer to test out the emoticons for you. Well, so far, nothing's showing up, right above, except for: , and it worked by clicking the emoticon itself. Let me try another: . Yes, that worked as well. But -- as I see now, in Explorer, that the reply buttons are NOT coming across as the Beakette had intended. They have a blue-grey background. Hmmm. P.S. And after 'previewing' the message, the emoticons are not showing up at all. Nor is my text 'colour' grey, as intended. Might I suggest Mozilla, Nursie? xoxoxo

Well, I fear that it is browser specific and it’s not curable (other than by changing browsers). This comes from the Support Board:- I can tell you that on Mac, the only browser vaguely compatible with Version 4 smilies/UBB is Firefox. It's hugely annoying for my members. Sorry

Sounds like you need to just reboot your computer, Nurse.

Sounds like you need to just reboot your computer, Nurse. In addition to the every night switch off and every morning switch it back on, reboot, you mean, Roger? ;D <---semi colon D

Thanks and well done. <--colon hyphen asterisk OK - agreement here: Firefox (Mozilla) shows just ONE of the 'Smiley' buttons, the For the rest it is showing links - clicking on 'Cheesy' produces Oh hell, Opera is doing much the same thing now! And having tried IE - it too is misbehaving in the same way. I notice that the smiley icon that works (in all three) is the only one hosted on a Proboards server... The other smileys are NOT FOUND on their server - they are not there. Example www.gjreid.supanet.com/shocknawe.gif(The server is there - I can ping it.)

Hiya, Cabin Boy. That was my first bit of advice to Nursie as well... off the board. Guess great minds think alike, you know.

Re-booting isn't going to put the smileys back on their server, though... perhaps the guardian of all things Desert Island could re-configure to pick up some smileys from somewhere else? Proboards. perhaps...?

Well, this is very strange. We now seem to be looking at two different problems:-
1. The smiley and tag buttons don’t insert what they’re supposed to. It seems that this is a browser-specific problem caused by the “upgrade” and to which the only solutions are changing browsers or typing appropriate notation the long way.
2. Smilies are not showing up on the screen. My guess, from the way you say “Opera is doing much the same thing now!” is that this was a temporary glitch on the server and that it should not be a problem. I have clicked on your link to the smiley and get a mainly blank page with a shocked smiley in the top left corner. Can you now see them, Captain?

Nursie or Lux (or anyone else who was having problems with buttons, before), could you please let me know if the smiliey and formatting buttons still don’t work for you. The Beak has tried a little bit of jiggery-pokery that’s supposed to help.
