Just a rant thought... This Island is based around music, as are many other boards, and 'sound' (speakers, audio programs, etc.) is the one area of computers and messageboards that is not perfected, nor easily accessed. I love Nurse's new thread about posting an image to complement lyrics. But how I'd love to listen to the tunes... Wouldn't it be wonderful if this 'upgrade' would come equipped with a uniform method and [sound clip] insertion key so music could actually be shared more easily? Unless there's something I don't know about. Eh, well... Hey, any singers on board?
That still wouldn't help now, would it?

Hmm, I guess if a web-page already exists with the tune on it, you can post a link, like this. I don’t think you can actually “post” tunes, though

this = url=http://www.jtq.co.uk/mp3/themillionaire.mp3This is helpful, Crusoe, thank you. I picked apart your post. So the music has to be uploaded onto the web already, I assume.
Any bored computer buffs out there who can offer tips on how to upload music to the web? I've tried it before and was unsuccessful.

Dear Miss Pooka, Dulcie is the one to talk to - she has done that in the past. I have uploaded music to a board (wave and seagull sounds for the Pirate board on April 1st) - but they made my computer crash a lot! I used www.streamload.com/But the best is www.ripway.com/ I messed up my registration and they only let you have one - so be careful!

Just a thought -- Perhaps we should compare notes on the functioning of buttons, etc., on the Island, as I believe some of us are having troubles. I'm having no problems on my end, but please, share what's "not working" if anything, and maybe something can be done... Maybe... hopefully.

Aren't pix copyrighted as well? Many are. But music owners tend to be more litigious, I think. Also, in both cases, I think there's a difference between linking to a work, and downloading and copying the work. If not, there should be!

I don't think it's browser-related in any way. In your message I see two 'smilies' - one at gjreid.supanet.com/ermm2.gif and the other at proboards8.com/v4images/undecided.gif.
Are Proboards still updateing servers, does anyone know? Because they suggested that these problems should clutter off once they are all up to date with the current version.

I think that the point Nursie’s making is not that she can’t see the smilies but that she can’t produce them the easy way. When she clicks on a smiley, nothing is inserted within her text so she has, in the example, typed three question marks, for the first smiley and a colon, a hyphen and an oblique for the second.
Not that that actually gets to the root cause of whatever’s going on but I would guess that there’s some sort of script not working as intended.
The fact that some of us don’t have the problem suggests that it may be a browser or computer related thing in some way.

Well here I am in Netscape and it gets even spookier. Not only does clicking stll not work but the entire top row of Tags, the ones which format text, has vanished. Yep, I'll go back to t'other browser then. I am now typing colon hyphen big kiss
