In the event that a piece of passing driftwood possesses an interest in music, then I really do recommend this programme to him /her. Definitely the radio equivalent of the definitive book. The whole programme smells of dreadlocks and auxiliary bass radiators! I didn’t know the label was named after the Trojan lorry.
Some of the racists currently posting on the R4 MBs would have hit the roof if they’d heard all these wonderful Jamaican speakers. Fine discussions about the history of Ska, with all the greats included – references to Prince Buster and a sizeable chunk of The Skatalites playing The Guns of Navarone…….references to The Rude Boys and an interesting discussion about My Boy Lollipop. Top-class radio and Part 2 next week. This is the kind of programme that The Archive Hour should have presented.

Thank you, Lawrence. I shall try to “Listen Again” to the first one and listen to the next one when it is broadcast.
Record shops are awash with wonderful Trojan compilations which really do cover the gamut of West Indian music and yet Trojan never seem to have had the profile of labels like Studio One or, in this country, Island.
