Listening to yesterday’s edition of Feedback generated the thought that it would be most interesting to hear a debate between Ms. Burridge and Mr. Kershaw on the programme. Mr. Kershaw described recently (1) how he believed that the programme had two assumptions running through it: ‘all men are bast*rds’ and ‘all women are mesmerised by their own reproductive organs.’ Certainly Ms. Burridge’s recent statement (2): ‘people are realising that it’s not a programme that excludes men.’ is untrue. Mocking men is quite common within WH and I’d cite the feature (last year) relating to men suffering from flu as one of the nastiest and most anti-male pieces of radio that I’ve heard in years. It was interesting that POTW repeated it and just goes to show how powerful women are within Radio 4.
Mr. Kershaw is a northerner, didn’t attend an Oxbridge university and isn’t posh so he probably represents the thoughts and views of many ordinary radio listeners.
