I was going to complain about Harmless Betty being bumped off but now I read further I see that that's what she wanted. At first I thought there's another dear old soul out on the streets in the middle of winter and how heartless can some people get, but it seems she's re-married and going to live in New Zealand so has no time for all that Harmless Betty stuff any more. On the one hand, Good for Her! Having passion second time around so late in life; on the other hand, who's going to bake the Stollen now? And feed the hens or bees or meerkats (lost track of the pets)? And take care of the wee bubby grandchild while it's three parents go swanning off enjoying themselves, eh? Mike can't see any of these problems coming up though: he's only got one eye. (which in the interests of tact or dementia, no one ever mentions any more) So, Farewell then Hardworking Betty. You once had a fling with Brian but then again, who hasn't?

Well, who's really going to miss her apart from her family? Not many of the listeners, probably.
Poor Cyclops will get some wailing and teeth-gnashing out of it.
I'm quite happy to have heard her on the radio this evening describing how she's got herself a new life, without the interference of scriptwriters. She always sounded so miserable in Ambridge, on the whole. Perhaps there's a more cheerful soap in NZ which she can join, and maybe play someone like a nice madam or truck driver.
