Did anyone notice that the producer of last night’s POTW was Simon Clancy and not the usual one, Torquil Macleod? This is extremely odd, because he (Mr. Clancy) also produces Loose Ends and Ned Sherrin was the guest presenter on last night’s POTW! I always thought there was an unwritten rule that a guest presenter on POTW shouldn’t choose an extract from their own show, yet that’s precisely what Mr. Sherrin did! I do so hate all those pretend laughs they do on LE when a guest is telling jokes that aren’t funny. Anyway at least Mr Sherrin didn’t preface any comments with: ‘when I was at Oxford’. Come to think of it I only heard two references to Oxbridge on R4 yesterday – what a disgrace.
I keep wondering if Greg and Charlie would have got the boot if they’d both attended Oxbridge colleges.

I wonder whether he produces Counterpoint, too? I always thought there was an unwritten rule that a guest presenter on POTW shouldn’t choose an extract from their own show, yet that’s precisely what Mr. Sherrin did! I thought that was pretty poor form but it does seem to fit in with a pattern of the Beeb trying to promote Loose Neds via its other programmes.
