Genuinely saddened to hear this news at the end of The World This Weekend and I’d like to thank Mr. Cox for presenting what I regard as one of the most consistently high quality news programmes in the history of R4. I’d single out Mr. Cox’s interviews with US politicians as my own personal favourites.
One amusing memory of the programme was when someone wrote to Feedback because Mr Cox had used – quite rightly - the word ‘crap’ on the programme. The editor informed listeners that he would be speaking to Mr Cox about this issue. How interesting that Sir Christopher Bland used the word bollo*cks some time later on DID and not a word of disapproval was uttered. Everyone knows that R4 is run along the lines of a public school, so I had a picture in my imagination of Mr Cox entering his editor’s office with a copy of ‘Yellow Pages’ stuffed down the back of his trousers!
I wrote to Mr Cox just once and he replied with an incredibly detailed letter by return of post. These are the kind of broadcasters I admire and I wish Mr Cox every happiness for the future.
