Poor Susan Rae, she’s been reading the news almost constantly since Saturday. Can’t R4 give this wonderful newsreader a break? I love the way women from Dundee often punctuate their sentences with ‘just now’. I also love the way angry Scottish women preface a sentence with: ‘Occchhh, for goodness sake’.

Oh but Dulcinea, I like the idea of a stranger thinking about me! Isn’t this what enclosed orders of nuns do? Don’t they pray for us all the time? Isn’t praying the religious dual of thinking? If your favourite gardening hat blew away or your centre board snapped in two, then I’d be concerned and would probably send you an encouraging message (+ two tubes of Araldite) via a message board. Sincerely, Concerned Billy

your penchant for the lady is well documented... as you can see, one cannot help but note such loyal ardour...

boy or man, dear william, you confuse me... somehow a duel of thinking seems more up my street and perhaps exciting to me... perhaps uncle maurice can clarify. i am going through a most dense phase and he might be able to help... vigilantly yours.. dulcinea

Also useful in the event that your skipper's badge comes adrift. I'd hate to think that your authority would ever be questioned! P.P.S. Can I have a free copy of your autobiography when you write it? I hope you call it: 'For The Love Of A Lantern'
